Getting targeted, qualified traffic to your digital properties requires smarts, effort

March 11th, 2013

Not too many years ago, you could pretty much put anything on the Internet and lots of people would eventually find it, but that was long ago in digital years. Today websearchers–not web surfers–have too many destinations to bother with just any site. They want to know that what they are looking for is at the end of the next hyperlink. So being on the first page of search results has become critical, so much so that many have used unsavory practices to keep up with the competition. There can be little doubt that those who rank on the first page of search results reap the rewards of higher traffic counts. And that usually means more customers.

Everyone wants to get traffic to their site. Sure. But just getting a large number of page views may be good for your ego, but it doesn’t necessarily follow that this traffic turns into profit. The key to traffic is getting targeted and high quality traffic to your web site (and presumably to your money page). Targeted because you have what they want or need, and high quality because they have the resources to purchase what you have to offer. There’s an old saying that my dad used to recite, “You catch different fish by using different bait.” The Internet is the largest digital ocean on the planet, and their are fish biting 24/7/365! The key is for them to find you!

In this month’s free report we’ll show you how to achieve success with simple, yet effective, traffic tactics. Whether you have a large sum to invest or you’re just getting started, this free report shows you the most effective means of getting targeted and highly qualified traffic to your webpage.

HELP WANTED: Authentic Social Media Strategists

February 10th, 2013

By Jean Smith and Pamela Renee

We are living in a day of hyper media convergence where social media dominate today’s web traffic. When social media were new, most businesses either shied away because they didn’t see the value proposition or potential return on investment (ROI), or they went in feet first and failed miserably. Worse yet are the so-called gurus who seem to know everything about social media, but they are only selling their usual wares in a new marketing skin. These hucksters know how to make money for themselves, but they aren’t very good at making money for others. Today, what businesses and organizations need are professionally trained, certified social media strategists.

The qualified and certified social media strategist differs from the advertising, public relations, or marketing positions. But, the social media strategist must be part of a team that incorporates all of these individuals that work together with mutual respect for what the other brings to the table. Therefore, it’s important that other team members know exactly what the role of the social media strategist plays in the big picture for each of their respective departments. In other words, the social media strategist must be viewed as someone highly qualified and certified in their professional field and not the young kid who spends all day posting “stuff” on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube.

First the social media strategist must have basic business acumen. Knowledge of mission statements and goals and objectives is just the beginning. This person must also understand how to set achievable goals, develop key performance indicators (KPI), and then demonstrate a reasonable return on investment. Everyone involved in the social media enterprise must be cognizant of making money, selling products, and promoting ideas. Reflecting back on the team effort involved, this person must also work well in the “culture” of business. Knowledge of these important factors alone is not enough.

Second the social media strategist must have technical skills. This does not mean that the position requires a “geek.” While a thorough understanding of how to manipulate content and publish on several different sites is complimentary of the technical abilities required, the technical skill set required for the position should be platform independent. This person has the ability to adapt their skills across all platforms but also can quickly learn new and emerging technology.

And third, the social media strategist must have analytical skills. The last phase of the social marketing cycle involves analyzing the success or failure of the employed strategy. Using the measurements developed as the key performance indicators, the social media strategist must determine what goals were achieved, were partially met, and those that were not met. Following this analysis is the formalized statement of performance. The statement of performance indicates the effectiveness of the social media enterprise and suggests pathways to improvement and further strategic enhancements.

As businesses and organizations begin to appreciate the benefits of social media, the need for qualified and certified social media strategists will continue to grow. Any search on jobs boards today readily reveals this growing need. Only those professionally trained, competent, and certified should apply for these positions because the field of social media professionals itself benefits, but when those with a passing interest chasing the latest fad throw-in, it harms the standing of those truly dedicated to a lifetime commitment to the profession.
